Farrells wins landmark consent for Ruby Triangle on Old Kent Road
The £520m mixed-use residential scheme located on Old Kent Road, Sandgate Street and Ruby Street, proposes 1,152 homes with over 40% of these being affordable. In the committee hearing when Ruby Triangle was approved by Southwark Council, their Design Officer described Farrells architectural design for this scheme as being ‘exceptional’. The scheme is made up of a series of residential buildings, all designed in detail by Farrells, with varied and lifting heights from 17 storeys on Old Kent Road through to 30, 40 and 48 stories.

Farrells releases new images of Nam Tong new town proposal
Architecture and urban design firm Farrells has unveiled new images of a conceptual new town called “Nam Tong” in eastern Hong Kong. In light of rising population and a scarcity of land, the Nam Tong proposal is intended as a means for Hong Kong to grow sustainably.

New horizons for Ilford – setting the bar high for office to residential conversions
Nine years after identifying the opportunity for a landmark scheme next to Ilford station with Crossrail arriving, Farrells architects have completed the transformation of a dated 1980’s office building into 122 high-quality homes, in close proximity to the new railway line. Four additional floors and a new side wing have been added to the original L shaped office building and the façade has been completely remodelled, creating an additional 50% of floor area.

Sir Terry Farrell donates archive and £1m to Newcastle University
Sir Terry is donating £1m for a renovated ‘Farrell Centre’, which will house a major new architectural exhibition centre, an urban room (a core recommendation of the Farrell Review www.farrellreview.co.uk), where anyone can come to learn and discuss the city of Newcastle, its past as well as proposals for its future, and a start-up space for recent graduates.

One Excellence development nearing completion in Shenzhen, China
Architecture and urban design firm Farrells has released new images of construction progress in Qianhai, a new business district in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. The company designed One Excellence, a six-tower development nearing completion on the first plot land sold in Qianhai, which went to developer Excellence Group at auction in July 2013. One Excellence has been designed and delivered on a fast-track basis. The first phase, comprising two twin 178-metre towers at the eastern end of the site, was substantially completed in 2016.

Beijing South Railway Station, emblematic of China’s high-speed rail growth, turns 10
Beijing South Railway Station, the Chinese capital’s massive high-speed rail terminus and winner of a 2009 RIBA International Award, turns 10 years old today. Unveiled a week ahead of the 2008 Summer Olympics, Beijing South was the largest rail station in Asia upon opening – eclipsing even Herzog and de Meuron’s “Bird’s Nest” Olympic stadium in size.
