FARRELLS is pleased to celebrate the release of the re-vamped, city-wide Hong Kong Urban Design Guidelines for the Planning Department, the Government of HKSAR

The updated Guidelines set out concise principles for movement networks, public realm, and building design. Presented in a graphic-led, accessible format, they are intended to guide and inspire thinking rather than prescribe outcomes — encouraging creativity, not constraining it.

Recognising that cities are both shaped by — and drivers of — their unique and evolving contexts, the HKUDG provide a flexible framework to guide the future of the city’s urban experience.

Informed by FARRELLS’ international city-making experience and over 30 years of continuous practice in Hong Kong, the Guidelines fuse global insight with lived experience and a deep understanding of high-density living.  A huge thank you to the team and collaborators who have worked on the project. We’re proud to see them out in the world and contributing to the next chapter of Hong Kong’s urban future.
