Mount Davis Villa
Sitting 70 metres above sea level on the southern slope of Mount Davis, this private home enjoys broad views over the Lamma Channel. Occupying a long site between two roads, the house extends almost the full length of the lot, with its narrow plan allowing for ocean vistas in every room.
Environmental sustainability was a key consideration for all aspects of design, including construction methods, building systems, and materials. All rooms allow for ample natural lighting. An operable skylight over the circulation spine produces a stack effect, allowing for effective natural cross-ventilation of the home. More than half of the pitched roof is occupied by vacuum-tube solar cells, driving a heat-exchange process using fan-coil units that provide air conditioning. Depending on the season, this system can be reversed to heat the house and swimming pools.
