Having laid out the masterplan for Shanghai Shipyard, Farrells are now delivering the vision for this strategically significant site along the Huangpu River. As the name suggests, it was once home to the workshops and dry docks of an old shipyard. Today it falls within the Lujiazui Financial District, a modern business centre developed since the 1990s. It is now home to some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers as well as Farrells’ distinctive BEA Financial Centre.
Construction is underway on land plot 2E31, which will host grade A office buildings alongside retail space and a generous public realm. Architecturally the two office towers are classic, elegant, and timeless, and enjoy an unimpeded view of the river. The smaller commercial buildings along Jimo Road, which links central Lujiazui to the riverfront, are designed to animate the streetscape by providing a fine-grained continuous retail frontage.
The project will be linked to adjacent developments via an underground shopping concourse, which opens onto a sunken Cultural Plaza. This new community node has been designed with the flexibility required to host performances, exhibitions, cultural events, and al fresco dining. The plaza is open to the riverside promenade, which connects to other parts of Lujiazui and offers sweeping views of the historic Bund.
