Farrells is thrilled to announce that Kwai Chung Hospital has been recognised at the Design & Health International Academy Awards 2026, receiving the Winner Award for Mental Health Project and Highly Commended in the International Health Project (Over 40,000 m²) category.
Designed as a Green Healing Village, the project provides 1,000 inpatient beds and delivers comprehensive mental health services for Hong Kong’s Kowloon West Cluster. Conceived as a therapeutic campus, the design adopts evidence-based therapeutic principles to create a recovery-oriented environment that promotes wellbeing, dignity, and rehabilitation. Through the integration of healing landscapes, abundant natural light, connections to nature, and a home-like approach to patient accommodation and communal spaces, the project seeks to transform the experience of mental healthcare for patients, visitors, and staff alike.

This international recognition reflects the collective efforts of the Architectural Services Department, Hospital Authority, Shui On Joint Venture, Farrells, and the wider consultant team in delivering a landmark healthcare project for Hong Kong. We are honoured to share this achievement with all project partners and stakeholders who have contributed to its success.
