Tsuen Wan West Station

Tsuen Wan West Station is a 50,000 m2 underground station, with ground-level bus and taxi interchange, serving more than half a million residents of Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung. TFP Farrells completed the detailed design in 1999 and were appointed to oversee construction, carried out on reclaimed land and requiring complex utilities diversion and reprovisioning works.

The station functions as an emergency terminus ahead of the Tai Lam Tunnel, Hong Kong’s longest transport tunnel, which links Kowloon to the northwest New Territories. This critical role demanded special emphasis on safety and reliability, with the massive excavation accommodating emergency platforms and an expansive underground concourse.

Building on our experience in transit-oriented development, provision was made for extensive topside commercial and residential development, including ten residential blocks each 35 to 45 storeys high. The first level of the podium structure and the ground-level bus terminus was roofed over to allow future construction to proceed in phases without any impact on railway operations.
