Beijing North Star

The Farrells masterplan grew from the primary concept of a ‘City in the Park’. Like London’s Royal parks acting as trapped countryside, the Great Crescent Park brings a series of landscapes based on the journey of a river, from its mountain source to the coast complete with a spectacular beach to the heart of the site.

This commercial led scheme with supporting retail, comprises a variety of typologies and introduces a number of public levels, using roofs as green gardens with restaurants, cafes, bars at elevated
level, feature parts of buildings at highest levels – clubs, high end restaurants start
to give Beijing a roofscape

The site is sitauted in a prominent location opposite the National Stadium. It is one of a series of emerging centres outside the historic core area of Beijing. It is part of the Asian Games village and a well-established commercial and conference destination.

The Farrells masterplan sought to make Beijing North Star a destination linked to the Olympic Park and the Asian Games Village through a landscaped cresecent park and an underground retail space. Increasing permeability of the site, our masterplan would enhance connectivity within the site and beyond, by improving links to existing metro and connecting into the bicycle network.
